I am a psychiatric registered nurse with a Social Science degree majoring in psychology(UCT 2001). I have a private practice in Noordhoek, Cape Town. I also practice once a week at Prospect Hill Recovery Practice with other professionals. I have worked in the field of psychiatry for the past 20 years and specialized in the field of addiction since 1994. I have worked in private practice for the past 8 years specializing in providing private individualized addiction counseling, treatment and other highly specialized work. I offer both brief-and long-term treatment informed by current evidence based approaches to treating addictive disorders.
I have worked at all the leading addiction treatment centers in Cape Town namely, Kenilworth Clinic, Stepping Stones, Crescent Clinic and Tabankulu Addiction Recovery Center. These are primary care facilities but in the last 8 years have been working as a consultant at secondary care facilities.
My area of expertise and practice is not exclusively with addictive disorders but also includes working with co-dependency, anxiety and mood disorders. Due to my psychiatric experience and expertise I work with dual disorders, for example: a diagnosis of a bipolar illness as well as addiction. I work collaboratively with other health professionals in this process.
I work with people of all ages, those contemplating treatment (assessment and motivational work), those wanting treatment and people who have completed treatment programs and wanting ongoing supportive counseling. I work with families who are struggling to make sense of the addictive process and facilitate their own healing following the aftermath of the ravages of addiction as well as with others who struggle with pain in a given area of their lives.
